Abbot of the monastery of Vyšši Brod (Hohenfurth): Josef Jaksch (religious name: Tecelin) *23.03.1885 Hackelhöf +23.05.1954 Rein (Austria) Tecelin Josef Jaksch was abbot from 1925 to 1954. The Jaksch family was one of the oldest of Hackelhöf/Haklovy Dvory. It was also a rich and religious family. During the Great Depression Josef Jaksch successfully increased investments in parsonages of the surrounding villages and the monastery itself. These investments gave a lot of people jobs and increased the local economy. It can be seen as an early form of keynesian spending to stop an economic downturn. After the foundation of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia the Nazis closed the monastery which had then 69 monks due to the good work of Tecelin Jaksch. After the war the monks came back and tried to reopen the monastery. Because most of them were of German origin the Czechs expelled them. In 1949 Josef Jaksch became Apostolic Administrator of the monastery of Rein, Austria. The Communists closed the Hohenfurth monastery and Abbot Jaksch went to Rein. There he died in 1954. His relatives had to leave their home earlier in 1946 with the first train of expatriated people leaving Budweis/Budejovice.
